What else is there to say about 30?? I'm not one of those people that dreads hitting milestone birthdays, so I love that the Riches decided to celebrate Lindsay's big birthday with this theme. 30 is TOTALLY HOT, Lindsay -- hope you have a good one!!

Hard to believe but Leah turns 5 next week! We're celebrating this year with a "girls ONLY (except for Daddy) Valentine's Day party." At the ripe old age of 5, my little sweetie already has an opinion on things, so I thought it would be fun for her to design her own cake this year... she picked the whole thing -- colors, shapes, and decorations. I know I'm biased, but I think it's adorable!! Her only complaint upon seeing the finished cake - "Oh Mommie, I love it. But Mommie, I wanted it to be as big as a wedding cake!!" (Check out my last post if you can't guess where she gets her sweet tooth from?) Happy Birthday Sweet Leah!!

Anyone who knows my husband also knows his sweet tooth. The man can eat more cookies in a single sitting than anyone I've ever met (I won't even tell you how quickly a bag of oreos can disappear around here, it's gross)... so, that being said, you know there is a LOT of excess cake around here when he can't even keep up with it and I end up with bagfuls in the freezer. So, desperate for freezer space, I've been looking for ways to use my leftover carvings. Solution One - biscotti (cut and rebake the excess then dip in chocolate) - the verdict was good. BUT, still with freezer space in high demand, I went looking for Solution Two - chocolate dipped cake truffles. Jackpot - these little delights are just too easy to pop into your mouth while walking through the kitchen, and sadly, seem to disappear faster than oreos!! But, with good timing on this last batch, they made for GREAT valentines this year, and thankfully are out of the kitchen!!

If you haven't had the pleasure of planning or attending a children's party in Charlotte, man are there a lot of options... art parties, tea parties, ballet parties, jumping parties, playset parties... I thought I'd seen (and heard of) them all... BUT my friend Mindy found one that I hadn't heard of for her daughter's 8th birthday - a pet party!! Some guy loads up all kinds of "pets" (some that I would NEVER consider as a pet option in my house - I'd draw the line somewhere before rodents and reptiles... but that's just me!). So he comes to your house, and lets the kids play with his various caged friends... how cute is this cake for a pet party!! It was so hard to decide which pets to make though... Chris was voting for a turtle, but I vetoed and chose the hamster... ohhhh cute!! Happy Birthday, Olivia, have fun!!
Rhonda is having a "crazy wig party" to celebrate her 40th (hence the bright blue hair)...
This was a carved vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream filling... Bubble placement was key for this cake design :) My favorite part?? The floating bar of soap and her toes sticking out of the water. (And, if you look closely, you can see Rhonda is enjoying a martini in the tub... my girls thought it was just hysterical to bring a drink in the bath!)
